Public Input

Why You Should Get Involved?

Do you have an opinion on how the city should grow? Are there certain things you would like to see in West Sacramento in the future? Are you concerned about issues like adequate housing, job growth, transportation, and the environment? Then help plan the future of West Sacramento!

The public outreach program extends throughout the General Plan Update effort and provides interested parties numerous opportunities to participate in the update process and express their opinions about the future of West Sacramento. It is the City's desire to reach a broad spectrum of the city, including residents, landowners, businesses, service groups, ethnic groups, youth, seniors, and various stakeholders groups.

How To Get Involved?

The following are several ways that interested parties can follow or participate in the General Plan Update:

Newsletters

During the General Plan Update, the City will periodically publish newsletters to update the community on the progress of the GPU and announce upcoming meetings. The newsletters will be published in hard copy and made available on-line.

Presentations to Community Interest Groups

The General Plan Consultants and City staff will make informational presentations to community interest groups such as social/community organizations, local school districts, and high school government classes.

Outreach to Ethnic Groups

The City will prepare a questionnaire in both Spanish and Russian that is designed to identify key issues in the Hispanic/Latino and Russian community. Based on the interest shown in this survey, the City may design a more ambitious program that may include providing translation services at community workshops, translating key materials, and translating the General Plan Update website.

Survey of Out-of-Town Workers

The City will prepare an informal survey questionnaire designed to gain input from people working in West Sacramento, but living outside the city limits. The City will distribute the questionnaire with the largest employers in West Sacramento.

Project Information Booth/Traveling Roadshow

The City will operate a project information booth at selected city/community events with the goal of providing information to interested visitors about the update and opportunities to become involved.

Media Outreach

The City will work with local media, including local newspaper and local radio stations, to bring attention to key General Plan Update events.

City Light Articles

The City will prepare quarterly articles regarding the General Plan Update for the publication "City Lights."

Community Workshops

At several points in the process, the City will hold community workshops to gain input on issues and opportunities, alternative futures, and the General Plan documents. Dates will be posted on the Upcoming Events page when they are scheduled.

Website

The General Plan Update website will be regularly updated with information on the status of the update process.

E-Updates

The City will build a database of e-mail addresses collected from various sources (e.g., General Plan Update website, stakeholder interviews, community workshops, and other sources) and send out e-mails to the entire contact list during key points in the process to keep the community current on the Update process, maintain their interest, and create greater turn-out for community workshops and other outreach efforts.

City Council/Planning Commission Joint Study Sessions

The City Council and Planning Commission will meet four times during the General Plan Update in Joint Study Sessions to review milestone products and provide feedback to the Consultants and staff.

Public Hearings

The City will hold three public hearings with the Planning Commission and three with the City Council. These hearings will provide an opportunity for interested parties to provide feedback on the Draft General Plan and EIR before they are adopted.
